Purple Overcoat

Purple Overcoat was born after Denis "auditioned" with chopsticks on a half broken drum set in August 2005. Shawn and Janelle McKee had been playing together in a local cover band when the meeting of their future drummer took place. Denis had not drummed since he had lived in Canada 10 years before and did not claim to be a drummer, but a guitar player. He came to see Shawn & Janelle's cover band over the next two years and in that time the long-lived cover band deteriated until the couple decided to set the date to end this band with the end of the 2005 year and start their own.

Purple Overcoat, from the first time with those chopsticks, knew they had found something special. They began playing anywhere someone wanted to throw a party and had their first official gig the beginning of January 2006. The new cover band quickly booked up leaving little time for much else but the Originals kept on coming.

Shawn always has a new song brewing. The band collaborates through many means, e-mail, the telephone and in person. Purple Overcoat feels rewarded when everything comes together and the crowd shows enjoyment for their work.

Shawn McKee is the lead guitarist and vocalist. He is also jamming more and more on the harmonica and once or twice a night we find him switching places in the middle of a song with the drummer. Denis Osborne is a bit innovative when it comes to drumming in Purple Overcoat. He's our Canadian import! Janelle McKee plays the bass and is working her way up to matching the amount of lead vocals Shawn puts out in a night. Steady as she goes is a motto Janelle goes by so the house can groove while Shawn multitasks.
